Cautions • Guggul is traditionally believed to stimulate the menstrual cycle and the tone of the uterus; it is therefore best avoided in cases of pelvic inflammatory disease or menorrhagia. • Guggul should not be used in cases of hyperthyroidism. • May potentiate or alter the effects of thyroid medications. Consult your physician. • Mild GI problems have been noted in a few people. • A small subset of Guggul users may develop a rash, which disappears when they stop taking the supplement. • Guggul reduces the bioavailability of blood pressure drugs diltiazem (Cardizem®) and propranolol (Inderal®), as well as the cancer drug cyclophosphamide. Guggul must not be taken with acetaminophen (eg. Tylenol®).
